When I consider my approach to graphic design, I think of myself as a visual interpreter. Just as I have a fascination with people of different cultures, I see design as a way to express the diverse human experience, to capture an emotion and reinterpret it as a visual message. If it happens to be clever or causes one to be curious, better yet. In the same way, in my previous employment as a fashion designer in the Miami garment industry, it was always about creating for a target market, someone different from myself. Each project is unique; just as each market has its own criteria. It is from this vantage point, that I view graphic design as an opportunity to tell a story, rather than simply "solving a marketing problem".
In the way of education, I am proud to have earned my certificate in Printing and Graphic Arts from McFatter Technical Center in 2008. In my graphic design artwork I utilize the most popular software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Flash and Dreamweaver. Learning the new state of the art computer software has advanced my career to the next level.
In addition, I hold an AS degree with honors, in Fashion Design from Miami Dade Community College, class of 1980. For twenty five years I have worked in the Miami garment industry. Eight of those years those years I was employed as a fashion designer.
I'm always on the lookout for inspiration, watching for trends and new applications. I'm attracted to working in collage, for the same reasons that I love to quilt. There is something very exciting and unique in scavenged and recycled art. I anticipate the challenge of imparting a fresh new interpretation, or twist to familiar things. I've always liked to work with my hands and create for the sheer joy of the creative process itself. It is not about vanity, or recognition, but rather springs forth from the passion that I have for my work. To "define" my artistic style, my work tends to be clean and clear, which is the reason that I chose the name Aquamarine Studio to represent my freelance graphic design business. |
What to expect:
We will first meet either at a local coffee shop, or your place of business. No job is too small. My typical client is a small business owner, seeking a fresh new look on a shoestring budget. You will have the opportunity to view my idea book. My role is to listen and identify your preferences and project requirements. If there are specific photos or artwork to be used in your project, please bring them along or mail them on a CD. Take note that I adhere to all copyright and trademark laws.
At the time of our meeting, you will be presented with a formal written proposal and contract. My requirements are a 50% deposit with balance due upon delivery. As my overhead is low, my design services are very affordable. You may select from my hourly rate of $20, or a fixed price which is based upon an estimate of the project. Upon completion of your project, you will receive two discs of your artwork, one to keep and one for your printer. In order to fulfill all of your printing requirements, I am associated with a reputable print broker, window tinter, vehicle wrap installer and trade show display dealer. Customer service does not end with the sale. My number one goal is your complete satisfaction. I am registered for business in Broward County: license #275-0004299
